Botanical Garden, University of Debrecen

It's so strange that when I travel to somewhere I can wander on the streets from morning until evening to discover everything, but there are places in the city where I live that I've never seen before. For example I was planning to visit the Botanical Garden of the University of Debrecen for years - but still I didn't see it during my university years, although it was literally two minutes away from the main building where I had my classes.

I can only recommend this place for everyone who loves nature and/or photography, or just want to take a relaxing walk. When we were there last week the tulips and the lilacs were still blooming, and not to mention the Judas tree which was dressed in beautiful spring colors. It's also worth to enter the palmhouse and the succulent and cactus garden while you are here, since there are more than two thousands different plants here). The adult admission ticket to the garden costs 550 Ft and if you are a hobby photographer and take photos just for yourself you don't have to buy a photo-ticket, only if you do commercial photoshoots.

When should you visit the garden? I guess it's beautiful anytime, in any season. It's never really crowded, not even at the weekends, but I advice you to arrive early since the palm house is closed at 3pm (the garden is open until 6pm). Olyan furcsa, hogy amikor utazom, akkor minden további nélkül bóklászok reggeltől estig egy város utcáin, hogy felfedezzem, de a saját városomban vannak olyan helyek, ahol még sosem jártam, mindig csak terveztem. Ilyen a Debreceni Egyetem Botanikus kertje is, amit annyiszor megnézhettem volna egyetemi éveim alatt, hiszen kb. két percre voltam tőle, mégsem jártam ott még soha. 

Pedig csak ajánlani tudom a növények és a fotózás szerelmeseinek, vagy csak úgy, egy frissítő sétához. Amikor ott jártunk a múlt hétvégén, még éppen nyíltak a tulipánok, virágzott az orgona és a júdásfa, minden gyönyörű tavaszi színekben pompázott. A pálmaházba is érdemes bemenni, onnan pedig abba az üvegházba, ahol a kaktuszok és szukkulensek vannak (több mint kétezer különböző növényfaj van itt, elképesztő). A felnőtt belépőjegy 550 Ft-ba kerül, ha pedig saját célra fotóztok, akkor nem kell érte külön fizetni (kicsit megzavart minket a honlapon olvasható információ, azt hittük, minden esetben fizetni kell, ha fényképeket akarunk készíteni, de csak a kereskedelmi célú fotózásért kell még pluszban 1200 Ft-ot). 

Mikor érdemes menni? Szerintem bármikor, mi legalábbis most már minden évszakban visszamegyünk majd fotózni (és őszapókat lesni, egyet láttunk most is, annyira cukik! Na meg persze a mókusok is). Hétvégén sincs tömeg, de arra ügyeljetek, hogy a pálmaházat 15 órakor zárják, a kert pedig most 18 óráig van nyitva.
