7 things to do in Agadir

On our flight to Agadir there was a family sitting behind us and I accidentally caught a few words from their conversation. One of them laughed about that the application/travel guide she had just read only suggested 2 things to do in Agadir: Beach and Sleep. Of course, Agadir is not Marrakesh where you can discover some ancient buildings, exciting sights or cool riads at almost every corner... Agadir was almost completely destroyed by an earthquake in 1960 - but there are much more things to do in and around this city than just sleeping on the beach for days. Az Agadirba tartó repülőjáraton mögöttünk ült egy család, és akaratlanul is elkaptam egy kicsit a beszélgetésükből. Az egyikőjük azon nevetett, hogy az applikáció/útikönyv, amit éppen olvasott, mindössze két programot javasolt Agadirba: az alvást és a strandolást. Persze, Agadir nem Marrakesh, ahol egymást érik az élmények és a látnivalók; ráadásul a várost 1960-ban szinte teljesen elpusztította egy földrengés, megsemmisítve rengeteg szép, régi épületet. De attól még nem muszáj napokig a tengerparton feküdni! Lássuk, mi az a 7 élmény, amit nem érdemes kihagynod, ha Agadirban jársz!

1. Souk el had

Souk el had was such a fun experience - it's something you just can't miss when you are in Agadir! This place is so bustling and crazy. We just stopped by a fruit stall to buy some bananas when a guy came to us. He asked where are we from etc., and told us that he collects postcards - will we send one to him too? (He wasn't joking and showed us a dozens of cards from all over the world). The next moment he bought us some bananas from another vendor and before we realized we were behind a spice counter, sitting on a small bench and they were pouring the Sahara tea to us. They told some interesting facts about the local spices, perfumes and the traditional tea. Okay, we had to buy something from them at the end but still: we enjoyed this market very much. We came home with some fine Moroccan cinnamon, spicy seasoning - and great memories. And of course we'll send a postcard to our favourite vendors!

A souk, azaz a piac abszolút kihagyhatatlan program, ha Agadirban jársz! Annyira nyüzsgő, életteli és kicsit őrült hely, és szinte mindent lehet kapni a tagine edénytől kezdve a friss zöldségeken és gyümölcsökön át egészen a legfinomabb fűszerekig. Mi épp csak megálltunk az egyik gyümölcsös standnál, amikor odajött hozzánk egy pasi, és (egyébként abszolút kedvesen) elkezdett minket kérdezgetni, hogy honnan jöttünk, satöbbi, satöbbi... Kiderült, hogy képeslapokat gyűjt a világ minden tájáról - ugye, mi is küldünk majd neki egyet? (Tényleg nem viccelt, volt nála egy kisebb stóc képeslap innen-onnan). A következő pillanatban már kért is nekünk 3 banánt, és még mielőtt észbekaptunk volna, már a fűszerpultja mögötti pici padon ücsörögtünk és az árusunk tesója már öntötte is ki nekünk a Szahara teát. Egy csomó érdekességet mesélt egyébként az ottani fűszerekről, különleges parfümökről, a teázásról... persze a végén ugye vennünk kellett tőle valamit, de tényleg nem volt túlságosan tolakodó egyikőjük sem, nagyon barátságosak voltak, fűszert meg amúgy is szerettünk volna vásárolni. Végül egy marokkói fűszerkeveréket és fahéjat vettünk, az egyiket pedig féláron kaptuk. Most meg azon vagyunk, hogy küldjünk a kedvenc árusainknak egy képeslapot Debrecenből! :)

2. The Medina of Agadir

The medina of Agadir is not 'real' since the city was almost completely destroyed by an earthquake in 1960. Nonetheless I really loved the magical atmosphere of the rebuilt medina. You can go there by bus from the city centre or with a taxi. The entrance ticket costs 40 dirham but a drink is included in the price - if you ask me, it's the perfect place to enjoy a traditional Moroccan mint tea!

A medina (azaz a marokkói városok hangulatos, szűk utcákkal teli óvárosi része) Agadirban sajnos nem igazi. Agadir városát szinte teljesen elpusztította egy földrengés 1960-ban, és a várost pár kilométerrel távolabb építették újjá. A mai medina is bőven a földrengés után épült, viszont ettől függetlenül nagyon hangulatos. Van egy 40 dirhamos belépőjegy, de ez tartalmazza egy ital árát is, amit a kis étteremben lehet elfogyasztani bentebb - ha engem kérdeztek, ez a tökéletes hely arra, hogy kipróbáljátok a marokkói mentateát! 

3. Engage in watersports

Watersport enthusiasts will not be bored in Agadir! Although the waves are usually too rough to be able to swim comfortably in the water this is ideal for surfing - and kitesurfing too! On the beach of Agadir the surf board and wet suit rental for one day is 120-140 dirhams per person (a little more than 10 €). Rental prices are much cheaper in Taghazout, just saying. If this is your first time surfing you can even take some surf lessons both in Agadir and Taghazout. You can ride a jet ski too! I haven't seen its price but I don't think that it would be much more expensive than 200 dirhams (approx. 20 €).

A vízisportok szerelmesei sem fognak unatkozni Agadirban! Bár többnyire elég nagyok a hullámok ahhoz, hogy kényelmesen úszni lehessen a vízben, ez szörfözéshez (sőt, kitesurf-höz is!) pont ideális. Agadir tengerpartján a szörfdeszka + wetsuit bérlése 120-140 dirhamba kerül naponta (kicsit több mint 10€). Taghazoutban nagyjából feleennyiért tudsz bérelni, de szörfórákat is vehetsz, ha még most ismerkedsz ezzel a sporttal. Jet skizni is lehet mindkét helyen, bár ennek az árát sehol nem láttam kiírva, de nem gondolom, hogy 200 dirhamnál (kb. 20€-nál) drágább lenne. 

4. Try the Moroccan mint tea

When you are in Morocco, the traditional mint tea is a must! It's usually made from fresh (and not dried!) mint and it's poured from very high above the cup so that the hot tea can cool down a bit before drinking. It's seriously addictive! Usually I prefer coffee but Moroccan mint tea is something that I'll never forget!

Ha Marokkóban jártok, a hagyományos mentateát egyszerűen kötelező kipróbálni! Többnyire nem szárított, hanem friss mentalevelekből készítik, és nagyon magasról töltik a csészébe/pohárba - ez a trükk biztosítja, hogy a forró tea ihatóra hűl, mire a pohárhoz ér. Leginkább kávézni szoktam, nagyon ritkán teázok, de a marokkói mentateát bármikor meginnám, olyan finom volt!

5. Day trip to Taghazout

Taghazout is a charming little fishing village 20 kilometers north of Agadir. It's one of those typical towns where you can find some cute, photo-worthy details at almost every corner. Shabby, pastel coloured walls, old doors, seagulls resting on a boat, colourful woven fabrics and hats, adorable kittens... I'm so sad that we could only spend one day in Taghazout! This town is the real Moroccan surfing paradise - so Viktor had the time of his life there :D You can go to Taghazout by bus (the bus number 32 goes from the center of Agadir to Taghazout, and it runs every 25 minutes between 6am and 8pm) but since the public transport is a bit hectic in Morocco, you can also choose a taxi. The roundtrip tarif is between 150-300 dirhams depending on where you are picked up. (If you are already waiting for a bus the drivers will offer a lower price). Taghazout egy hangulatos kis halászfalu Agadirtól 20 kilométerrel északra. Tipikusan az a település, ahol minden sarkon találsz valami apró, szemet gyönyörködtető részletet: kicsit málló vakolat, kopott ajtók, csónakon pihenő sirályok, színes szőttesek és kalapok, imádnivaló kiscicák... Annyira sajnálom, hogy csak egy napot töltöttünk itt, legszívesebben sírva fakadtam volna, mikor elindultunk vissza Agadirba délután. (Mind a 4 napot itt kellett volna töltenünk!) Arról nem is beszélve, hogy ez a kis falu igazi szörfparadicsom, így Viktor is kiélhette magát :D A 32-es busz egészen Taghazout központjáig visz, és elvileg 25 percenként jár ilyenkor, nagyjából reggel 6 és este 8 között. 6. Relaxing in Paradise Valley

Paradise Valley is like a small oasis filled with palm trees in the middle of the mountains! It's actually a part of the Tamraght River valley in the Moroccan High Atlas mountains and it's located approx. 20 km north of Agadir. It's a must if you are in Agadir and you can reach it with taxi or with organized tours (I recommend the taxi though and if you read the blogpost I wrote about Paradise Valley you'll find out why).

A Paradise Valley egy kis pálmafákkal szegélyezett oázis. Igazából a Tamraght folyó völgyének egy szakasza az Atlasz-hegységben, Agadirtól kb. 20 kilométerrel északra. Szerintem mindenképp érdemes ellátogatni ide, ha már Agadirban jártok - taxizhattok is, de számos szervezett kirándulás is indul ide. Én inkább a taxit ajánlom - ha elolvassátok a blogbejegyzést, amit erről a helyről írtam, egyből megértitek, hogy miért...

7. Sunset chasing

Sunsets are never the same, that's why I love them so much. Chasing sunsets is a great activity everywhere, especially on the coast of the Atlantic ocean. So if you are in Agadir it's a nice evening program to watch those never ending waves sparkling in bright sunset colours. One evening we had some beautiful cloud formation above the ocean and a group of small birds flown into my photo to make it even more cliché! :D

Imádok naplementét nézni, mert sosincs belőle két egyforma. Mindig és mindenhol gyönyörű, főleg az Atlanti-óceán partján - így ha Agadirban vagy, szuper esti program lehet a naplementézés. Nekünk nagy mázlink volt, mert egyik este csodaszép alakzatot vettek fel a felhők a víz fölött, ráadásul a fotómba berepült egy kisebb madárraj is, hogy igazán giccses legyen a végeredmény! :D


+ 1 Go on a 2-Day Desert Tour

Unfortunately we could only spend 5 days in Morocco this time (because we traveled too much this year that we simply ran out of holiday leave). I'm pretty sure that if we could have spent at least 8-10 days in this amazing country then we would have gone for a two-day desert trip. I don't recommend one day trips from Agadir since they'll only take you to the Souss-Massa region which is beautiful but do not expect huge, orange coloured sand dunes. However, the 2-day tour usually includes a night in the desert, in a traditional Berber camp. If I'll have the chance to return to Morocco one day, then I would definitely go on a Sahara tour.

Sajnos most csak 5 napunk volt Marokkóra, mert annyit utaztunk idén, hogy elfogytak a szabadnapjaink, de egészen biztos vagyok benne, hogy ha legalább 8-10 napot itt tudtunk volna tölteni, akkor elmegyünk egy két napos sivatagi túrára is. Az egy naposat azért nem ajánlom, mert az ha jól tudom, csak a Souss-Massa régióig visz, ami szép-szép, de ne számíts olyan igazi, óriási homokdűnékre. A két napos túrában benne van egy éjszaka egy tradicionális, berber táborban is, szóval már csak ezért is megéri szerintem! Ha egyszer még lesz alkalmam visszatérni Marokkóba, akkor kötelező program lesz a Szahara, az biztos!
