Sleeping on a boat in Belgrade

I always try to choose the cheapest option when it comes to hotel booking. If I can cancel or modify the reservation for free and don't have to pay in advance I usually stop at the first or second search result on Booking.com. But I knew that our Balkan roadtrip would be really tiring since we didn't stay more than 2 nights in a row at a place and drove a lot in the hot summer weather so I thought why not to stay at a bit fancier place on our last night? So instead of driving more than 9 hours in a row we made a quick stop in Belgrade on our way home - and slept on a boat!

Belgrade would be our resting spot anyway but we saved so much money with choosing cheaper hotels/guesthouses before that I choosed a hotel (or more accurately: a boatel) which was a bit more expensive than the other accommodations. During our Balkan roadtrip we never paid more than 6-9 euro per person per night but this time we paid almost 30 euro per person/night. For this price we got an Admiral suit in the Compass River City Boatel, with huge windows, comfortable beds, air conditioning and a massage shower with radio (fun fact: I never, ever showered in a cabin like this before and I was so excited like a little girl). It was terribly cozy to sleep on a boat by the way! The lounge and the shared places are furnished and decorated in an old-fashioned, 'Titanic' like style - I was almost waiting for Jack and Rose to show up on the stairs :D But what I liked the most about this boatel was the bar area on the top with tiny palms and sunbeds - there is even a small swimming pool there which you can use until 11pm. You can enjoy a dinner here while watching the sunset: the food is divine, we tried the club sandwich and it was HUGE, with grilled chicken breast, tomatoes, fried eggs and bacons, and with a large portion of baked potatoes. We also ordered two beers (per person, haha) and we only paid 9€. For all of this. Dinner for two and 2 x 2 beers. Nine. Euro. I almost couldn't believe it. 

What I didn't like was the breakfast (which was included in the price). I'm not gonna lie: it was horrible. We should have go upstairs again and order something at the bar because nothing was really expensive there (but it would have been far more delicious than the breakfast downstairs). The river bank was also filled with garbage and it was sooo sad to see that the surrounding of such a cozy place is so neglected. Unfortunately we only could park a little far from the boatel, approx. 800 meters away (the coordinates of the parking lot: 44.824009, 20.420178). This is not free, you have to pay for the parking 70 Serbian dinars (approx. 60 eurocents) per hour. But it's guarded 24 hours so we didn't really mind it. You have to walk across a small park from there to reach the bank of the Danube, where the boat hotel is situated. 

On our last day, after checking out of the boatel we had a few hours to explore Belgrade before heading home. So we went up to the fortress of Belgrade which you can visit free. You'll get a wonderful view of the city from there! There is also a very nice little pizzeria right at the entrance of the fortress where we ordered a quattro formaggi pizza (it was delicious). I was a bit upset that we couldn't spend more time in Belgrade because it seemed to be a really pretty city. I hope that we'll go back again sometimes - maybe for a weekend getaway :)

Általában mindig igyekszem a lehető legolcsóbb szállást lefoglalni, amikor utazunk. Ha ingyen le lehet mondani, és nem kell előre fizetni, ráadásul még ingyenes a parkolás is, általában megállok az első vagy a második találatnál Bookingon. A balkán körutunkról viszont előre tudtam, hogy szörnyen fárasztó lesz, hiszen egy ponton sem töltöttünk többet két napnál, ezért úgy voltam vele, hogy miért is ne dőzsölhetnénk egy icipicit a legutolsó esténken? Szkopjéból nagyjából 9 óra lett volna az út hazafelé, de egy éjszakát megpihentünk Belgrádban - ahol egy hajón aludtunk.

A belgrádi pihenőt egyébként is beterveztem, de úgy gondoltam, hogy miért is ne választanánk egy kicsivel 'puccosabb' szállást, mint amilyet átlalában szoktunk? Azelőtt 6 napon át minden este 1500-2500 Ft-nak megfelelő összegért szálltunk meg, pici hotelekben és vendégházakban - ehhez képest nem volt sokkal drágább ez a belgrádi hajóhotel sem: egy éjszakára kb. 10.000 Ft-ot fizettünk fejenként, cserébe viszont megkaptuk az egyik Admiral lakosztályt, óriási ablakokkal, kényelmes ággyal, légkondival, és masszázs funkcióval ellátott, rádiós zuhanykabinnal (fun fact: életemben nem tusoltam még ilyenben, és úgy örültem neki, mint egy kisgyerek). Már az iszonyúan hangulatos volt, hogy egy hajón aludtunk és egy picikét minden lejtett. A társalgó régimódi, igazi 'Titanicos' stílusban lett berendezve, szinte vártam, hogy felbukkanjon Jack és Rose a lépcsőfordulóban! :D De ami a legjobb, az a legfelső szint, ahol picike pálmák és napágyak sorakoznak, és van itt egy kis medence is, amit egészen éjjel 11-ig használhatnak a vendégek. Folyamatosan szól a zene és gyönyörű innen a naplemente. Itt rögtön meg is vacsorázhatsz, amit szívből ajánlok: egy óriási adag, isteni finom klub szendvicset kaptunk, baconnel, csirkemellel, tükörtojással, meg egy nagy adag sült krumplival... mellé megittunk fejenként két sört, és még így is csak 9 eurót fizettünk. Összesen. Kilencet. Nem tértem magamhoz. 

Ami annyira nem tetszett a hajóhotelben, az a reggeli... nem fogok hazudni, borzalmas volt. Bár ez benne van az árban, de jobban jársz, ha inkább felmész a 'tetőteraszra' és a bárban rendelsz magadnak kávét meg valami finom szendvicset! Nem sokkal drágább, de garantáltan sokkal finomabb lesz. Picit rontott az élményen az is, hogy a part rendkívül szemetes volt, szomorú volt látni, hogy egy ilyen hangulatos kis hajóhotel környéke így el van hanyagolva. Parkolni sajnos kicsit messzebb lehetett csak a hajótól (koordináták itt: 44.824009, 20.420178). Ez egy fizetős parkoló, óránként azt hiszem 70 dinárt (kb. 60 eurocent) kell fizetni, viszont cserébe folyamatosan őrzött. Egy kisebb parkon kell átsétálni, hogy elérd a Duna partját, ahol a hajóhotel is van.

Másnap, kicsekkolás után, hazaindulás előtt még maradt egy kis időnk arra, hogy Belgrádban bóklásszunk. Így hát felmentünk a várba, ahová egyébként teljesen ingyenes a belépés, és ahonnan csodaszép kilátás nyílik a városra (sajnos itt is mindent elborít a szemét, ez levon egy kicsit az élményből). Van viszont egy nagyon hangulatos pizzéria is a várban, ahol mennyei négysajtos pizzát feleztünk meg, és ismét jóllaktunk mindössze pár euróból. Sajnálom, hogy nem tölthettünk Belgrádban több időt, de sajnos kifutottunk a szabadnapokból, pedig biztosan van még itt is felfedeznivaló bőven!
